HOW MUCH WILL A CONCRETE GRINDER REMOVE?

A concrete grinder can technically remove as much concrete as you want to remove. How fast that happens is a bigger question. Another good question is how much will you take off at a time.

A concrete grinder uses diamonds, or sometimes tungsten, to grind off layers of concrete. Most people use a concrete grinder to remove minimal amounts of concrete or remove glues and imperfections from concrete. You can expect on most passes, you are going to take off around 1/16″ of concrete with normal grinding wheels and work.

Let us look at an example. Suppose you want to remove 1/8″ of concrete to smooth the concrete, take off a little glue from flooring on it before, and prepare it for applying a new surface. You will probably make a single pass to get the glue off the floor and take a tiny amount of concrete. This will give you a smoother surface for your next pass. Your next pass will take off about 1/16″ of concrete and your third pass another 1/16″. This gets you down to the level you want for the entire floor, almost.
